Virginia Mary Cortez passed away Saturday January 15, 2022 in St. Charles Mercy Hospital at the age of 74. She was born December 10, 1947 in Toledo to Socorro and Dorotea (Sanchez) Jaimez.
She was known to many as “Mama Bert” and if you knew her, she would make sure you didn’t go hungry. Mama Bert was known for her chile which everyone loved.
She enjoyed going to play bingo, the casino and the horse track. Mama Bert also was an avid sports fan following the Ohio State Buckeyes, Detroit Tigers and Pittsburgh Steelers. Most of all, she loved watching her son, grandsons and nephews play sports.
She is preceded in death by the love of her life Juan Manuel Beltran; parents; brothers Socorro Jaimez, Jr., Rodolfo Jaimez and Robert Jaime; and sister Oralia Jaimez. Virginia is survived by her children Angela Cortez, John (Lisa) Cortez, Jacqueline (Antonio II) Ribas and Rebecca Cortez; siblings Roberto (Marilyn) Jaimez, Rogelio Jaimez, Raymond Jaimez, Manny (Darlene) Jaimez, Raquel (Juan) Hernandez, Vera Diaz, Delia Camarillo, Olga (Richard) Atwater and Maria Jaimez; and grandchildren Alicia Cortez, Louciano Cortez, Lorenzo Cortez, Antonio Ribas, III, Alejandro Ribas, Alonzo Ribas, Catarino (Angelica) Hernandez, Jr., Emilio Ruiz, Juanito Cortez and Jeanette Cortez; as well as 11 great grandchildren.
Family will receive friends at the Castillo Funeral Home 1757 Tremainsville Rd. Wednesday after 2 PM followed by a Rosary Service at 7 PM where a funeral prayer service will be held Thursday at 10 AM followed by Funeral Mass at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church at 11 AM.
