Susan "Sue" McCall Obituary

Susan “Sue” Marie McCall (Dziabas) passed away Thursday, October 28th at Ebeid Hospice Residence in Sylvania, Ohio.

Diagnosed with cervical cancer, Sue fought bravely and beat the cancer but ultimately succumbed to complications of the cancer treatments. She was surrounded by loved ones as she moved on from this life. From her hospice bed she could feel the love and prayers being raised in her name; this meant so much to her.

A lifelong resident of Toledo, Ohio, Sue was the daughter of Betty and Leonard Dziabas, owners of the Korner Carryout. She graduated from Start High School in 1973, moving on to earn a BA from the University of Toledo and a masters degree from Eastern Michigan University, leading her to a 35-year career as a Speech and Language Therapist for Toledo Public Schools.

The highlight of her life’s work was working as a speech and language therapist in the Early Childhood Program of TPS, where she was passionate about play-based learning in young children. This passion expanded to the importance of lifelong play. Her famous birthday greeting to all was “I hope you play all day!” Sue treasured her work at Cherry Preschool and the preschool program at Glendale Feilbach. She was part of a diagnostic team for TPS in the preschool program and worked closely with others furthering a model program that had State recognition for creating a play-based approach to assessment and intervention. Sue maintained strong lifelong professional involvement helping colleagues and families succeed with young children. Over her career, Sue touched thousands of lives and gave so much joy to others with her caring attitude. She made a difference to so many and truly left her mark.

She was immensely proud of her two daughters and treasured being an aunt and great aunt and always gave the best gifts. She was able to reconnect with her high school sweetheart turned love of her life John Dygon and they were able to share several beautiful years together. Her great sense of humor and distinctive laugh drew many people to her and she leaves behind many beloved friends. Sue had a love for life and fun, she loved dogs (especially terriers), traveling, scrapbooking, car rides, solving murders, classic rock, crafts, antiquing, children, dancing and play. She would want us to “play all day!”

She is preceded in death by her parents Betty and Leonard Dziabas and her brother-in-law Doug Obee. She is survived by daughters Amy McCall (Tony Milazzio) and Sara McCall (Steve Bartholomew) of Colorado; partner John Dygon;

sister, Victoria Obee; nieces Janet Obee and Karen Obee; nephew Jamie Obee; and 6 beloved great nieces and nephews. A Celebratuion of LIfe Service will be held June 4, 2022 at the Grape Leaf Diner 909 S. McCord Rd. Holland, OH from 2 - 6 PM.
