James R. Van Orden, 83, of Toledo, passed away on Saturday, June 9, 2018, at Kingston Care Center of Sylvania. Born June 1, 1935, Jim was an inspector at GM Powertrain Toledo Transmission, retiring in 1991 after 30 years of service. A passionate collector of sports, beer and historical memorabilia - which he called Jim’s Junk - for more than 40 years, Jim donated his Toledo-related items dating to the early 19th century to the University of Toledo’s Canaday Center where the James Van Orden Collection is available for future generations to research and enjoy.
Jim is survived by Patricia, his wife of 54 years; children Julia Stallsworth of Perrysburg and Bob (Suzy) Van Orden of Sylvania, as well as grandchildren Chad (Amanda) Stallsworth, Jill (Chad) Finkbeiner, and Zoe and Lucas Van Orden, along with 3 great grandchildren, Nicole, CJ, and Aiden. His mother, Anora, his stepfather Earl Howell and stepbrothers, Earl Howell, Jr. and Ronald Howell, preceded him in death.
The family will receive guests from 4-8 p.m., Thursday, June 14 at Castillo Funeral Home, 1757 Tremainsville Rd, where funeral services will be held Friday, June 15 at 11 a.m. Interment will follow at Ottawa Hills Memorial Park. Jim requested that memorials be made to Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
