Donald Francis Elliott, Jr. passed away after his brave 2 year battle with brain cancer on Tuesday, November 6, 2018 in Toledo Hospital surrounded by his loving family at the age of 56. He was born August 12, 1962 in Toledo to Donald F. Sr. & Marilyn “Marty” (Faust) Elliott and was a 1980 graduate of Woodward High School.
Don worked in the overhead crane industry for over 35 yrs. eventually retiring as an owner of Crane 1 Services of which he helped start from the ground floor. He was an accomplished entrepreneur helping friends and family start their own businesses throughout the area. On June 3, 1995, he married his love, Carla Olsen.
Don was a strong willed go-getter and would put 150% in everything he did. He was a very competitive athlete playing golf, baseball, bowling, football, softball and loved watching sports, especially The Ohio State Buckeyes. Don lived life to the fullest and had a definite zeal for adventure. He loved disco music, dancing, rollercoasters and driving fast. Don also enjoyed traveling, taking family vacations to Tennessee and Hawaii, as well as a once in a lifetime trip to the Holy Land. Don and his wife,Carla, also traveled to China where they adopted their daughter, Leah.
He was a longtime member of Holy Trinity Catholic Parish and a member of the Knights of Columbus.
Don is survived by his wife Carla; daughters Erica (Mike) Micel, Laura (Ben) Zawodni, Jessica Elliott and Leah Elliott; granddaughters Alyssa and Hailey Micel and Norah Zawodni; parents Donald F. Sr. & Marilyn “Marty” Elliott; brother Dennis (Deb) Elliott; sisters Denise Elliott, Diana (Frank) Ozanski; special daughter Rebecca Woolery; former wife Becky Thompson; as well as numerous family and friends.
Don’s family will receive friends at the Castillo Funeral Home 1757 Tremainsville Rd. Sunday from 2 – 8PM where a scripture service will be offered at 7:30 PM. Funeral Mass will be held Monday at 12 Noon at Holy Trinity Catholic Church 2649 U.S. Hwy 20 Swanton, Ohio 43528.
His family would like to thank the medical staff at UM Cancer Center and Toledo Hospital specifically MICU and ER departments and all the family and friends that were there for Don & Carla throughout his battle. The family would prefer memorial tributes be made to St. Vincent de Paul Society at Holy Trinity or 3000 Miles to a Cure 104 Red Oak Ct., Lumberton, NC 28358.
